Gravel & Shingle Driveways in Boston & Lincolnshire

Gravel driveways suit Lincolnshire's farmhouses, cottages and long rural frontages like nothing else, instant drainage, satisfying crunch, and the most economical way to surface a big area. The difference between a gravel drive that stays crisp and one that ruts into mud inside a year is everything underneath, and underneath is our family trade.

Built like a road, dressed like a garden

Our gravel drives are excavated, levelled and compacted in courses of clean type 1 hardcore, membraned against weeds and fines, then dressed in your chosen stone at the correct depth, 20mm Golden Flint is a favourite. Containment edges keep stone off the lawn and out of the road.

The Ropsley method

Our Ropsley project shows the full sequence: dig-off and grab-away, level and compact, type 1 in courses, Geo Pave breathable membrane, then Golden Flint, with block-paved entrance aprons and a resin threshold so nothing migrates onto the highway. That job is documented start to finish in our work.

Honest limits

Gravel is brilliant and cheap; it is also loose. On slopes, small courtyards where you turn on full lock, or anywhere you want a seamless finish, we will steer you to resin bound or resin bond, which give the gravel look, fixed down.

Questions

Gravel & Shingle Driveways FAQs

Will a gravel drive rut and spread?
Not if it is built on a compacted, membraned base with proper containment and the stone laid at the right depth. That construction is the whole difference between our drives and a tipped load of shingle.
Does gravel need planning permission?
No, gravel is fully permeable, so it satisfies front-garden drainage rules automatically.
How much maintenance does gravel need?
An occasional rake-back and a top-up every few years. A grab of matching stone is inexpensive, and the membrane keeps weeds from rooting through.
