What resin bound actually is

Resin bound surfacing mixes natural aggregate with a clear UV-stable resin, then hand-trowels it onto a prepared base as one seamless layer. The stone is fully coated, so the finish is smooth enough for bare feet, bikes and buggies, yet porous throughout, rain drains straight through instead of puddling.

It is a different product from resin bonded surfacing, where stone is scattered over a resin film. We install both, and we will tell you plainly which suits your job, see our resin bond page for the comparison.

No, a fine anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the finish where extra grip is needed, and the porous surface sheds water rather than holding it, so it outperforms smooth paving in the wet.

How long does resin bound surfacing last?

Correctly installed on the right base, 15 to 25 years. The Vuba systems we install carry a product warranty of up to 20 years, and our workmanship is guaranteed for 10.

Does resin bound need planning permission?

Not for a front garden: it is fully permeable and SUDS-compliant, which satisfies the permitted development rules for hard surfaces.
